Job Description

The Upper Primary Learning Support Teacher works under the direction of the classroom teacher and offers supports in the fulfilment of the teacher’s professional responsibilities.

• Works from 07.00 am until 04.00 pm Monday through Friday. If she/he is on duty at gate, she/he must arrive at 0640 am.
• Assists with supervisory duties as required. These normally include the canteen, playground and classroom on a scheduled basis.
• Attends team and staff meetings as required.
• Participates in all school activities, such as assemblies and parent conferences. If requested to do so by the supervising teacher.

Assistance to students:
• Assists students individually and in groups.
• Assists students who require special help, e.g. those with learning difficulties and attention disorders, or who are unwell.
• Helps individuals and groups move from class to class, to the canteen, and to toilets when necessary, and with field trip supervision.
• Assists the class teacher with the physical welfare of students.

Assistance with the works of the classroom:
• Offers input into the planning of lessons.
• Shares ideas and discusses classroom activities and projects with the class teacher.
• Creates and maintains bulletin boards and other classroom displays as directed by the teacher.
• Organizes teaching materials and resources as directed by the teacher.
• Making materials for use in classroom.
• Designs student worksheets.
• Photocopies resource materials.
• Records assignments as directed.
• Assists the class teacher in assessing students.
• Assists the substitute teacher when the class teacher is absent, e.g. unlocks the door, checks that lesson plans are easily located, and otherwise provides support in the normal manner.
• Covers classes as directed by the Principal or Division Head.
• Collects books from library and returns.
• Collects all forms brought in by students. (field trip, library, etc.)
• Carries out other works as directed by the supervising teacher.
• Orders a stationary or a teaching materials assigned by a class teacher.
• Updates and creates an information on a class notice board.

The Learning Support Teacher shall also accept and discharge any other duties assigned by the Headmaster. On occasions when service is required of the classroom assistant to extend working hours beyond the contracted time or to discharge his / her duties on a non-working day, the classroom assistant must be willing to support the school in all official events and activities.
